Come one - come all!

So much going on, so much to report on... where do I begin?

Well, as the old saying goes "start at the beginning and when you come to the end - stop"

SO this weekend has been one of the best acting/living overall weekends of my life, from the class I took with the Geffen/Steppenwolf to seeing Ian McKellen as Lear to finding myself in my work to learning importantace - Oh man...

Okay, first off, love out to my father, who must be the most loved man in the world (I know I love him) cause every time I have tried to call him, his line is either busy or no one answers. What a life! =) I love you dad, get well soon.

So my class was with Phyllis Schuringa and Peter Forster was one of the best, if not the very best, single acting class I have taken - ever. Why you ask? Well, there are times when you are in class and a mental timebomb is placed on your brain. You think you understand what you are learning at the time, but it isn't until sometime later, when you hear some say this thing in a new or different way, does it set the bomb off in you brain and suddenly you understand exactly what it was you were taugh and how to use it. I learned many wonderful things about the nature of this industry, things I already knew but couldn't put into words, as well as what tools were truely needed to be doing my work. I was so charged up after class - I still am. It was an experience no doubt.

And this past week or so has been full of them. I saw Ian McKellen in King Lear and The Seagull at UCLA. What an actor - there was so much life to everything that he did, from the smallest detail to the largest. Both his Lear and his Sorin were two very different, very amazing people. The Storm scene was a sight to behold and again, I learned so much just from watching him work, watching him create. Just amazing.

Over the past week I had another agent event at RP and I have a CD workshop tonight with the CD of Boston Legal and The Big Bang Theory. Should be lots of fun. I have a few more agent events over the next few days as well.

I've been putting in alot of hard work on my scenes for my Steppenwolf class - and the first go around with them has been great. Great feedback, my work is coming thru very clear and so I'm very happy to keep working hard.

Bree has been doing great too. A busy week for her - she had a commercial audition this morning, she signed with a new commercial agency (her theatrical agency is now representing her across the board) and she had a producers callback for a new TV... I forget the name and the paperwork isn't laying out anymore... but she did really well! =)

So, I guess that is all for now.

Check out my website if you haven't - jasonryanlovett.com

The S-man worked really hard on it, and it looks great!

Rock rock on!

Friday Night Agent Time!

So I just got home from my first "Agent Night" at Reel Pros.

This is much the same as the CD Workshops - one big difference is that you bring in your own goods.

So I did a scene from Beyond Therapy, I played Stewart and the reader (no partner in this one) read Prudence (the role Bree played when we did the show at Stage Left back in 2004)

The two agents were Mary Dangerfield from Match Point (she was a CD, a producer, director and owned a different agency, all in other lifetimes) and Ryan Olson from AEF and he just made partner (or something similar to that, as he was saying). Both were super nice, both said they were looking for new blood to add to their rosters, and both had some wonderful thoughts on where the industry is at the moment.

I went second (only cause the guy that went first was on his way up while they were setting up for the scene part of the night) and I killed. The scene got lots of laughs, both agents said I did a great job and Mary said she thought I was very funny. At the end of the night, I asked if they would take my reel - both said yes and both took it.

All and all a great night! Already got thank you cards in the mail to them!

Tomorrow is my "Theatre Auditioning" class thru Steppenwolf with the Artistic Director of the Geffen - which should be wonderful.

And I just got word that next week I am shooting the Transformers Spoof - I am playing Megatron... I'm not sure just how this is going to work out, but it should be fun.

Keep your fingers crosses for me.

Till next time!

Keeping up with myself

Last night I had my first Reel Pros Casting Director workshop. I'm not sure if I ever talked about what these are or not...

Casting Director workshops are where you pay to meet with the CD or their associate (who normally does the grunt work in the office of calling people in and reading them for the first time for a role, which is called a Pre-Read) and read a scene for them from one of the shows that they cast or a pilot they are about to cast.

Now I know you are asking yourself - why the hell would you pay to meet with someone who should, by all rights, audition you for free? Your paying to audition? That doesn't seem fair or even legal.

Well, it's like this - if you want to get a new account at work, you take the client out to eat, or golf, you pay to network with them. These events can then be written off at the end of the year because it was a buisness expense. Same thing, you are paying to "play golf" with this CD you want to call you in, only your version of golf is doing a two minute funny or sad scene with a partner, not playing the back 9.

Now Reel Pros is a play that host these CD workshops for a cost, and it isn't all. In the current climate of the entertainment industry they are a way to get seen by offices that don't send out breakdowns (this is what the agents get everyday, that have the rolls broken down in them, listing all the films and shows that need what kind of actors). Lots of these CD's say they cast from these sessions, or call in actors from them all the time - it exposes them to actor they otherwise would not have even known about PLUS it gives the actor a chance to get out and work-out their acting chops and audition skills! All in all, a good deal.

As such, I had my first Reel Pros session last night - with Russel Scott. He works on such great shows as "Notes from the Underbelly" and "My Boys". I did short scene from "Notes" - it was a little funny, got a few laughs and overall I felt like it was a good night. Not a homerun, but hey, you don't always need to homer to win the game - you just need to score, and that is what I feel like, looking at it today, I did.

Friday I have an agent meeting, similar to the CD workshop, at Reel Pros with two good Theatrical Agencies. Should be good - I will update afterward.

Other news:

For those that know, or knew, about the money trouble I was having with my Ex-Agent, that has been worked out as of yesterday. Good things are happening.

I am in full body reboot - hitting the gym 6+ days a week - spin class 3 to 4 times a week, 3 days of gym time hitting the weights and eating 1000 times better than ever in my life. I am down to 190 lbs from 210... the midsection is almost extra-baggage free! The goal is around 180 - almost there.

I am getting new headshots Nov 1st (give or take a day - based on when Tucker can shoot) - so I got get in great shape - making it happen one day at a time.

Make sure to check out my reel on Myspace.com/jasonlovett and/or YouTube!

Going to see King Lear with Sir Ian McKellen on Sunday the 21st! I cannot wait! This is a once in a lifetime experience!

Mailing for theatre company memberships went into the mail today - among those mailed out to: The Rubicon, The Old Globe, and The Road Theatre.

No word on the Bud Lite - the callback time has come and gone, so next time.

This weekend I have a class, thru Steppenwolf (my scene study place), with the artistic director of the Geffen Playhouse about how to audition for theatre. I want to get into some of their shows - that is one of the best theatres in LA!

God bless my dad, he just got out of surgery yesterday and is doing great!

My nephew Jaeden has a joke for everyone - how my sides does a circle have? Give up? Two - an inSIDE and an outSIDE! Ha ha ha! Love ya buddy!

Well... not much news other than that.

Love and misses to all.

J.

PS - give me feedback on the new look - we are going thru some re-development of this corner of the internet. Love!

LA on Notice

Now it is time to kick into high gear - Version 2.0 is live! And working hard every day this past week - only resting on Sundays (Hey, if God gets to take the day off...)

I did and have planned lots of classes this week - Casting Director Workshops, Agent Meetings... had an audition for Bud Lite! Gotta get myself one of these beer spots - I need that money! =)

Got a meeting with RPM (my old agent) tomorrow - big things happening with old projects from like two years ago.

I mailed out to a half dozen theatre companies in LA this week too - The Rubicon, The Road, The Old Globe, The Actors Co-op.

Plus I have a buddy (who acts on According to Jim) looking into which teachers I should study with at IO West, so I should be suiting up in their next round (which starts in Nov? I think...)

Bree has been kickin it too - classes, auditions (went in for Without a Trace again! They need to just put her ass on the show - write in and let the studio know they need to just cast her already). Her father was in SoCal this week and she got to go up and see him.

Stay tuned - my website will be going live soon - got a bunch of big auditions lined up - working on a Transformers Spoof and a musical Iron Man one!

Check back soon! Love ya!
